Agdistis (Αγδιστις ) is a complex and fascinating figure from Phrygian mythology, representing a non-normative and gender-ambiguous entity. In mythology, Agdistis is often depicted as a hermaphroditic deity, possessing both male and female attributes. This characteristic challenges traditional gender binaries and invites us to question societal norms and expectations.
By focusing on Agdistis, we acknowledge the importance of recognizing and embracing non-normative identities and behaviors. Just as Agdistis defies traditional gender roles, our project seeks to promote understanding and acceptance of diverse expressions of gender, sexuality, and personal identity. We aim to create a safe and inclusive space where individuals are empowered to be their authentic selves.
Sadly, Agdistis’s story also sheds light on the issue of gender-based bullying.
